Volatile Oil in Pinus yunnanensis Potentially Contributes to Extreme Fire Behavior
نویسندگان
چکیده
Volatile oils in forest fuel can significantly affect fire behavior, especially extreme e.g., deflagration, storms, blowups, eruptive fires and crown fires. However, how these influence behavior remains unclear, as few qualitative studies have been performed globally. In the present study, we compared volatile oil contents components live branches surface dead of Pinus yunnanensis Franch, which is widely distributed Southwest China, to explore their potential effects on behavior. Fifteen samples fifteen were collected. extracted from using steam distillation, identified analyzed gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The results show that content was high 8.28 mL·kg−1 (dry weight) higher than (3.55 mL·kg−1). P. 126.12 kg per hectare. main terpenoids, monoterpenes accounted for highest proportion based (62.63%), followed by sesquiterpenes (22.44%). terpenoid compounds more abundant those fuel. Monoterpenes low boiling points, calorific values a lower explosion limit (LEL; 38.4 g·m−3), are important characteristics manifestation such deflagration. analysis indicate when heated, oily gases could fill 3284.26 m3 hectare, with concentration reaching LEL. We conclude has an greater effect

Volatile constituents of Pinus roxburghii from Nepal
BACKGROUND Pinus roxburghii Sarg. Is one of 3 species of pine found in Nepal, the oil of which is traditionally used to treat cuts, wounds, boils, and blisters. OBJECTIVE To obtain, analyze, and examine the anti-microbial and cytotoxic activities of the essential oils of P. roxburghii. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three plant parts (cone, needle, and bark) of Pinus roxburghii were collected in Bir...
متن کاملControlling Factors of Soil CO2 Efflux in Pinus yunnanensis across Different Stand Ages
The characteristics of soil respiration (Rs) across different stand ages have not been well investigated. In this study, we identified temporal variation of Rs and its driving factors under three nature forest stands (e.g. 15-yr-old, 30-yr-old, and 45-yr-old) of Pinus yunnanensis in the Plateau of Mid-Yunnan, China. No consistent tendency was found on the change of Rs with the stand ages. Rs wa...
متن کاملOlive Oil Composition: Volatile Compounds
In general olive oil is defined on the basis of its sensory characteristics. European Union (EU) regulations establish the organoleptic quality of virgin olive oil by means of a panel test, evaluating positive and negative descriptors (EU regulations). For the organoleptic assessment, several volatile compounds are considered as the main responsible for negative and positive attributes. Volatil...
متن کاملNeedle morphological evidence of the homoploid hybrid origin of Pinus densata based on analysis of artificial hybrids and the putative parents, Pinus tabuliformis and Pinus yunnanensis
Genetic analyses indicate that Pinus densata is a natural homoploid hybrid originating from Pinus tabuliformis and Pinus yunnanensis. Needle morphological and anatomical features show relative species stability and can be used to identify coniferous species. Comparative analyses of these needle characteristics and phenotypic differences between the artificial hybrids, P. densata, and parental s...
متن کاملImpact of Geography and Climate on the Genetic Differentiation of the Subtropical Pine Pinus yunnanensis
Southwest China is a biodiversity hotspot characterized by complex topography, heterogeneous regional climates and rich flora. The processes and driving factors underlying this hotspot remain to be explicitly tested across taxa to gain a general understanding of the evolution of biodiversity and speciation in the region. In this study, we examined the role played by historically neutral process...
